Cape Coast, Ghana \u2014<\/b><\/p>\n

Climate Change Advisors Ghana (CCAG) has joined the Buzstop Boys in a major clean-up exercise in Cape Coast ahead of this year\u2019s Fetu Afahye<\/b> celebrations, reinforcing calls for cleaner communities and more sustainable events.<\/p>\n

The clean-up, held on Thursday, 3 September 2026<\/b>, formed part of CCAG\u2019s Zero Plastic Waste Initiative<\/b> and brought together members of the organization and the Buzstop Boys to tackle plastic pollution and improve sanitation across key areas of the city.<\/p>\n

The CCAG team was led by Dr. Nana Esi Badua-Taylor, Project Coordinator, and Mr. Shafi Mohammed, Head of Administration and Programs. The exercise began around the banks of the Fosu Lagoon<\/b> and continued through the streets towards the historic Cape Coast Castle<\/b>, with participants collecting plastic waste and clearing choked drainage channels.<\/p>\n

Speaking during the exercise, Dr. Nana Esi Badua-Taylor emphasized the need for environmental responsibility to be incorporated into the planning and execution of public events.<\/p>\n

She called on event organizers and planners to prioritize environmentally friendly products and practices, particularly those that help prevent pollution of water bodies.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll events should be organized sustainably, and event planners should consider using products that are environmentally friendly and do not pollute the environment, especially our water bodies,\u201d she stated in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA)<\/b>.<\/p>\n

Mr. Shafi Mohammed also commended the Buzstop Boys for their continued efforts to promote environmental cleanliness across Ghana. He noted that the group’s work has attracted considerable public attention and appreciation, particularly through its social media activities.<\/p>\n

He further encouraged the leadership of the Buzstop Boys to explore ways of sustaining and expanding the initiative, stressing that the environmental challenges facing Ghana require continued collective action.<\/p>\n

Mr. Mohammed also urged the youth of Cape Coast to view plastic waste not simply as rubbish but as a potential economic resource through collection, recovery, recycling, and other circular economy opportunities.<\/p>\n

As part of CCAG’s support for the exercise, the organization presented a cash donation to the Buzstop Boys to support their ongoing clean-up activities.<\/p>\n

The donation was received on behalf of the Buzstop Boys by Chief Executive Officer Oheneba Kojo Sarfo and Central Region Director Abednego Sowah, who welcomed the CCAG team and expressed appreciation for the organization’s partnership and support.<\/p>\n

The Buzstop Boys leadership also shared some of the organization’s achievements since its establishment and expressed optimism about the growing participation of individuals and organizations in Ghana’s environmental movement.<\/p>\n

The collaboration comes as Cape Coast prepares for the annual Fetu Afahye celebrations, one of the city’s major cultural events, which attracts residents and visitors from across Ghana and beyond.<\/p>\n

CCAG says its partnership with grassroots environmental groups such as the Buzstop Boys will continue as part of its broader commitment to environmental sustainability, plastic waste reduction, community engagement, and the promotion of a cleaner Ghana.<\/p>\n
