To combat the growing plastic waste crisis in Ghana, Climate Change Advisors Ghana (CCAG), a not-for-profit organization that delivers advocacy, research, policy analysis, and capacity development in climate change mitigation and adaptation, renewable energy, climate-smart agriculture and environmental sustainability, on Thursday, April 10, 2025, donated two (2) plastic waste bins to the Cape Coast Technical University (CCTU).<\/p>\n

According to Dr. Samuel Ayeh Ofori, the Director of Research and Programmes, CCAG and a Senior Lecturer at the University of Cape Coast (UCC), Ghana was facing a significant challenge in managing plastic waste, with urbanization, industrialization and changing consumption patterns contributing to the problem. CCAG was committed to addressing this issue, particularly in the coastal areas, hence its decision to help mitigate the menace, first from the various tertiary educational institutions.<\/p>\n

Dr. Ofori emphasized the importance of mitigation and adaptation in tackling climate change, highlighting the need to reduce plastic waste and manage its environmental impact.<\/p>\n

The Ag. Director of Works and Physical Development, Dr. Stephen Agyefi-Mensah, on behalf of Management of the University, received CCAG’s donation and expressed gratitude for its support.<\/p>\n

He also highlighted CCTU’s initiatives in reducing plastic waste on campus, including the Green and Clean CCTU programme and the CCTU Green Club. \u201cThe University is committed to integrating climate action into its development agenda and building a more resilient and sustainable future,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The event, held at the forecourt of the University\u2019s Administration Block, was attended by some representatives of the University and Directors of CCAG.<\/p>\n

The donation and partnership between CCAG and CCTU underscore the importance of collective action in addressing climate change. By working together, individuals, organizations and institutions can contribute to a more sustainable future and mitigate the impacts of climate change.<\/p>\n
